For #WomensHistoryMonth, Parenting for Liberation wants to honor Black mama’s who are doing the work of raising liberated children. Throughout the month of March we will highlight Black mamas who lead, inspire, and cultivate liberation in their homes and in the community. Some are public figures and others are connected to our network. We are happy to honor and shine light on their Black Mama Magic!
Today we salute Ola Ronke @thefreeblackwomenslibrary for calling on us to protect and love Black girls from harm, and speak up against ANYONE who inflicts violence on Black girls.
“I am a single Black mother raising a Black daughter, and I worry about her safety all the time. And the lack of awareness in our community feeds my fears. The lack of attention and conversation around the real issue deeply bothers me, the problem of sexual abuse and gender violence that takes place within our community. This really ain’t about R Kelly– it’s about the culture that keeps him comfortable. It’s about the passive complicity.”
