Today we honor Winston Thomas a young black man who speaks to becoming a father at 15 years old. His poetry is featured by KCET. Here is what Winston said about why he wrote this poem: “I had my son at 15 years old and the girl I got pregnant was only 14. I knew I would do anything to make him happy but I felt my life going in the wrong direction at times. I then realized that in order to save his life, I had to save mine first. So, that’s where this poem came from. It came from going through life and the experiences I have been through at a young age.”
